Shuffle play

I designed a set of playing cards that were inspired by a mixtape that I made as a kid.

The cards are illustrated with musicians and 80s nostalgia with the juxtaposition of bitmaps and vector elements. Using the artist as a focal point and aggregating scale to mimic the movement of the tape from one side to another.

Along with the textures and patterns, another layer of interest is made in the production. The printing was done using four spot colors of purple, yellow, red and teal. the black is actually a warm black created by all four spot colors. A special die was created to cut holes out of the reels and then trim the corners of the cassette shape.

To bring everything together, an insert was also designed for the case. After the cards are die-cut and stacked they fit all snug in the cassette case.
